Description:
Hi I’m River! I was found by the Michigan Humane Society in April where they discovered I had heartworm and was noticeably malnourished. The Humane Society was ready give up on me when Last Day Dog Rescue stepped in and wanted to give me a chance. I am approximately 6 1/2 years old and around 65 pounds. My foster family has made sure that I completed my heartworm treatment and that I gained some weight. My foster family has a large breed dog of their own and we get along, however, I would probably be better suited in a home where I am an only pet. I also do well with older children around 10 years old and up. A home where someone is home most of the time would be best for me too.

I am house broken for the most part and I know basic commands such as: sit, lay down, stay, heel, and shake/give me paw. I am currently learning to roll over and should have it mastered in no time! I am good on a leash but sometimes I get a little too excited when I see other dogs walking by me. I also tend to bark when someone knocks on the door or I hear a doorbell (I like to make my presence known). Most days I can be a couch potato and will snuggle up to whomever is near, because of my recent heartworm treatment I had to learn to be very calm and still for a long time. I am getting healthier every day, and every day I get a little more energy to play more. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting.
