Description:
Rio is a very sweet and loving 39 pound miniature Australian shepherd dog, although the vet said he might have a tiny bit of border collie in him since he has a long tail. Rio is blue merle and white with marbled eyes. That means that each one of his blue eyes has brown sections in it. Rio is super friendly with everyone. He loves people of all ages, other dogs, cats, and even chickens. He has no aggression in him at all. Rio is very calm and laid back. He will follow you around and get in your lap when you sit down. He loves to cuddle but he also loves to go for walks and car rides. Rio is very well behaved in the house and he is crate trained but there is no need to crate him. We just leave him loose in the house at night with our other dogs and cats. He is housebroken and will go to the door to say he wants out. Rio isn't the frisbee catching type Aussie because he would rather just sit and watch the other dog get it. He does show some interest in squeak toys and he likes to chew on a bone. Rio is looking for a home where someone is at home most of the time. He gets lonely when left alone and will sometimes cry if there are no people or animals in the room with him. He loves to sleep in a crate but he prefers that the door be left open. Rio isn't prone to running away but I would feel better if he want to a home with a fenced yard, and not an invisible fence. If he is tethered, it has to be with a cable with a steel core as he will chew through a long line or leash to get loose (but doesn't try to run away if he gets loose). That is the only thing he chews, never anything in the house. Rio is a super nice dog for anyone who wants the company of a sweet, gentle, lap dog, or who wants a walking partner. According to the vet, Rio is about 6 years old. Rio would be fine with children of any age as long as they are gentle and don't hurt him. He loves kids that are willing to give him nice long belly rubs.
The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.
