Description:
This sweet girl is a 1.5 year old 40 pound yellow lab who was pulled from the pound 2 days before she delivered 5 black puppies. She came to use very timid and scared. She spent the first several weeks at our house in the basement with the puppies, so scared that she didn’t want to climb the stairs to get outside to go to the bathroom. When we would get her to the top of the stairs, she was too scared to go out the door into the yard. She warmed up to us after a couple days in our care, but continues to be very timid when anyone enters our house. Despite this, she has shown many positive changes over the 6 weeks she has been with us as she has acclimated to her new environment. She is beginning to show interest in play outside, and has gotten comfortable enough to now spend all of her time out of the basement with the family. She is incredibly cuddly and wants to be a lap dog, and really enjoys sprawling out on the couch for a nap. She does well with cats. She was very fearful of our dog initially, but after 5 weeks of very slow and controlled introduction she has begun to share space with our dog and even play with her. She could do well in a home with another dog if care is taken to introduce them properly.

Ladybird is still quite fearful in a lot of ways but has shown great improvement and potential to continue to blossom. She will continue to do well if introduced to new environments and situations at her own pace. We believe she is quite smart as she has been a quick learner with clicker training. She would do well in a quieter home with a family that is willing to be patient as she becomes comfortable in her new home and to new situations.

Ladybird has had a rough start in life and deserves a little patience as she learns that not all people are bad. Please know that she is not a dog that will come running to you with tail wagging at first meet. All interested parties should anticipate on meeting her a few times before adoption in order for her to feel comfortable to show you her full personality.

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog.
The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
