Mozart had numerous medical issues as a direct result of abuse and severe neglect, which have been identified by the veterinarian and are actively being treated.  He is up to 58 pounds, but is still skinny-mini and is working on gaining another 10-15 pounds so he can be at a healthy weight.  He came to us 3 weeks ago completely untrained and unsocialized, and we are thrilled to see his capacity to learn.  After one session with a trainer he went from pulling us all over the neighborhood and marking every tree to walking nicely with slack in the leash.  He is starting to sit and shake his paw for treats!  He would do VERY well if training was continued after adoption.  While we don’t think he is good with cats now, he has improved so much with regard to chasing squirrels and rabbits and we think that particular training may be translatable to cats.  He loves his walks and especially loves to run. He gallops like a horse and would make a good running partner if given the opportunity.  He also loves car rides and will stick his whole chest out the window if given the chance.  So far he has gotten along with everybody he’s met, but men seem to get the most enthusiastic tail-wag.  He has had no issue with other dogs at training, on walks, or with our 35 lb personal dog.  There has been no aggressive behavior with strangers, food, or toys.  He is still quarantined in his kennel when not on walks while his infections are being treated, and has kept it tidy with no messes.  As time passes we see more and more of what a great dog he is going to become!

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption. AVID Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog.

The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
