Description:
Hi, My name is Stuyvesant (for the early governor of New Amsterdam, now New York) - but my friends just call me Stevie. I am a laid back dude looking for my forever family. I love the human ladies, but take a little longer to warm up to men. I do best with older kids (> 12) because I am scared the little ones will hurt me. I enjoy living with another dog, but need slow introductions to any new canines in my life. You see, I was found as a stray on the streets of Detroit and used to fending for myself - not always knowing who I could trust. Please be patient with me. A nice lady found me during a bad storm - cold, wet and hungry. She opened the hatchback of her car and I jumped right in. Living in a home is SO much better than on the streets!
I only have 3 legs, but it's been so long I do not really even remember the fourth. Yes, it slows me down a bit, but I still can run and climb stairs just fine. I make my foster mom laugh when I lift my leg to pee on a tree and tumble over. It's okay, I can laugh at myself and I'm okay when she does too. Once I lose the extra pounds I am carrying, I should get around even better. If you will find it in your heart to love me despite my limitations, I will return your love ten-fold. Take me on short walks and I'll wag my tail feverishly. Rub my belly and I'll melt. I so look forward to meeting you!
Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption. AVID Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog. The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption.
