Hi, I'm Petey! My owner of 7 years recently passed away and although I miss them very much I'm really looking forward to my new forever home! My foster parents say I'm the perfect age, mature enough to chill and lay with you while you work from home, but active enough to go on long walks and play during your lunch break. I am a very sweet and respectful house guest, my foster parents even leave me out while they're gone so I can sleep on the couch! I haven't touched anything that isn't mine and haven't had any messes in the house. I am also working on my commands and am doing very well with sit, shake, and down, and am getting better with come and leave it. I am an absolute gentleman and am even working on sitting and waiting for my food!
I'm very friendly and love all people: adults, kids, men, women, I treat them all with a tail wag and maybe even a little kiss if they get close to my face. Although I'm a bigger boy I'm a real softy and love nothing more than belly rubs and ear scratches after a nice walk or tug of war session, and I take treats very gently. I make the cutest sounds and grunt and snort to communicate, although overall I'm a fairly quiet guy. I love to be outside and my foster parents say I'm doing pretty good on the leash and with a little training could become a nice running companion. When we run I get the biggest smile on my face!
I haven't met any dogs yet so my foster parents aren't sure how I am with them, but I would do great as the only dog in the home. My previous family said I lived with a dog, but I can get pretty excited when I see dogs outside. No cats please as I like to chase them, they look just like squirrels (which I also like to chase)! I've also seen ducks and geese out on the Riverwalk and have mostly ignored them since there's so much to see and smell.
Not to toot my own horn, but my foster parents say I'm the boy! Will you fill out an application to meet me? Please check out my pictures – some are from when I was a pup at LDDR, but I posed for some new ones with my foster family .
Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.
Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.
The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.
Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
