Description:
Nico is a purebread pup without papers, but we aren't sure if he is a Silky Terrier or a Yorkshire Terrier.  He has many characteristics of both breeds.  We tend to believe he is a Silky Terrier because he is longer and weighs more than the breed standard for a Yorkie.  Which ever he is, Nico is a sweet-heart.
Nico was surrendered to LDDR by his previous owner who did not want him any more because he could not be used as a breeder without papers.  We are still learning about Nico, but we can tell you he is a sweet little guy.  He has a friendly disposition with those he knows, but is reserved and cautious initially with strangers.  Once he warms up, he is fine.  He barks when someone comes to the home or he hears strange noises outside.  His bark is somewhat high-pitched, but he responds well to a firm command of "quiet".  He likes to be close to his person and will find a place close to you, either at your feet or at the top of the chair you are sitting in.  Nico is living with 7 other dogs and likes all of them.  He has tried to initiate play, but most of the dogs are much older than Nico.  Nico is crated trained and sleeps in his crate at night and when the foster mother is gone.  He would rather not be in the crate and does whimper some initially, but settles down after a bit.  Nico gives an excuberrant welcome when foster mom lets him out of his crate, jumping and running all over the house.  Nico is housebroken, but has had a couple accidents in the home.  He loves to go outside with the other dogs, but is equally happy to come back in to be close to foster mom.  For the most part, Nico is well-behaved, but would benefit alot from additional training.  Nico is UTD on his shots and will be micro-chipped and neutered this week.  He has no known medical issues.  To learn more about Nico or to meet him, please email his foster mom at j-jarrett@att.net .

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption. AVID Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog.

The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
