Description:
Streak is definitely a petite Dachshund mix. She displays classic "earth dog" behaviors...digging under blankets, burrowing, seeking cover. She likes to try and squeeze into tight places.  Her snout is curved down like a Dachshund and she has the head of Dachshund, only flatter. Her legs are very short and her feet splay like a Basset or Dachshund, and her droopy ears also come to a more angular point like a Dachshund. Her coat is extremely soft and she has a white "streak" with red ticking that reminds me of a Brittany Spaniel or similar soft coated dog. She has a muscular, short, boxy, body that looks like it could come from some bull dog breed.

Streak likes to carry around toys and hide them. She likes to pick up shoes and slippers and pile them up in her bed, but not chew them. Interestingly enough she always puts the pairs together. She understands her place in the pack as last, or omega, and is trying to ingratiate herself to the other dogs. Top dog Kirby is peeved and will have none of it, but Hodge is interested is playing.

Streak seems to know her name and comes when you call her. She is very excited to greet you and likes to stand on her short hind legs and dance. She is learning the "down" command.  Streak stays in a crate while I'm at work and has adapted very well as my other dogs are also crated.

In just a few short days she's made great progress on potty training. The first day, it was obvious that she had no idea to potty outside. I have a doggy door, and the boys blast through it at will. She goes to the doggy door with them and waits. When she goes potty outside, I  praise her and she is very excited and happy. She is getting better and still has accidents, but now they are by the doggy door.

She seeks comfort from women but is leery of men. She tries to hide behind me, jump in my lap, seek shelter, always with me. I have my husband gaining her trust by feeding her with the pack.  She has no food aggression, but she is  exuberant and leaps for treats.

After a few days observation,  it's obvious to me this Streak had an all-too-common owner-abandonment history. Momma doted on this cute puppy and she formed a obsessive attachment to Mom. She displays some "resource guarding" in  the master bed when she is in it with Foster Mom. She is very clingy and looks to the Mom for direction and comfort. Clearly Streak has not been used to taking commands from a pack leader, but she desperately wants to please me. She has "sit" and "No-No" and "off".

Initially Streak really was afraid of my husband and didn't want him to touch her at all. She yelped and alarm-barked at him. She doesn't like a hand over her head. She clearly has been punished harshly by a man. She wants to jump in my arms, snuggle in and hide. He  has won her trust slowly with calm, gentle interaction and with food.

Streak needs a gentle and kind human pack leader with just a week or two worth of patience and you'll be rewarded with a lifetime of love form this sweetie pie.

**Foster Mom will gift 2 private lessons at a training Center in Waterford to Adopter.

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption. AVID Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog.

The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
