Description:

Doodle is a sweet, blind, senior male Poodle mix, possibly mixed with JRT or Fox Terrier.  Doodle, also known as McCutie, was found by a pond and taken to a rural shelter where very few senior dogs are adopted.  Doodle was frightened and confused after losing his home and family, and now being in a noisy shelter.  Imagine all this happening to you and you have no sight.

Doodle is estimated to be 13 or 14 years old.  He had his initial shots and is scheduled for neuter and a dental cleaning.  Doodle is very skittish and will try to get away if you reach for him.  If he is ‘cornered’ he shrinks in place and is visibly shaken.  It’s very sad to see him so frightened.  It helps to let him smell your hand and slowly move toward his head [to scratch his ears].  Fast movements toward him send him into a frenzy of fear.  The foster mother believes this is due to his blindness, as he is ‘spooked’ with unfamiliar noises or if he bumps into something. With much reassurance and gentleness, Doodle is slowly responding to his foster mother.  He is good with the other dogs; in fact, Doodle would do best with another dog to help him learn the ropes.  He loves to go outside with the other dogs, but must be in a secure area or he will wander off.  He needs leash training as he will fight the leash or try to wiggle his way out of his collar.  This may be due in large part to him still being intact.  Some of his behavior should improve following neuter.  On the other hand, Doodle has shown a desire to be in the home, as he will sit down at the door when ready to come in.  Doodle is very smart and learns quickly.  Within one day he learned his name, where his crate is, and several commands.  He goes in his crate on his own whenever he wants to rest, and sleeps through the night in his crate.

Doodle will require a patient family.  He is not a good fit for a family with children, or a family with lots of activity going on.  Doodle needs a quiet, loving adult home to live out his golden years.  To learn more about Doodle or meet him, please contact his foster mom at  ma11oryw@yahoo.com

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption. AVID Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog.

The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
