Description:

Howdy peeps! My name is Axle and I am a 2 y/o German Shepherd with a lot of energy and a great deal of affection for people. Think of me like my famous TV ancestor, Rin Tin Tin: Strong, intelligent, athletic and deeply loyal. I am used to having the run of the house and haven't lived with other furries in a while. I am a little on the sensitive side and I don't always transition quickly, so my new furrever family should understand that I just need a little time and space and no other furry brothers or sisters right away.

Now my perfect adopters would have older kids (I really like teenaged boys!) or adults of that age where you like to throw balls for me to fetch, take me running or fishing, and let me have a nice backyard with a high privacy fence where I can just hang out and not have other animals looking in at me. I adore water and love playing with the hose and in fish ponds!

I am very much a purebred German Shepherd (or Alsatian if you want to be fancy). I have a strong prey instinct and will not do well with cats or bunnies. Please let me have a lot of exercise cuz I am just a stud muffin and need to get back to my perfect body weight. It's not that I'm fat, mind you, but the vet thinks I should have a little more waist. I walk very well on a leash and it's awesome to ride down I-75 with the sunroof open so I can stick my head up and take in the wind.

Now there was a little incident with me and a window. It wasn't horrible, but as you look at my pictures and see the stitches, don't freak out. I am just used to having blinds on the window and instead saw a squirrel outside a just-cleaned window. I didn't quite notice the glass. All is good, I think it just adds a little character to my rugged good looks. But so you know as you look at my pictures, I don't have a fancier story on how it happened. I just wanted that squirrel. OOPS. It's kind of like the big burly biker who gets hurt teaching his kid to hit a T-ball.

So I could really use your help finding a furrever home, or at least a good foster with a place for the Prince of the City. I will love you unconditionally and make you so happy that you picked little old ME!

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption.  AVID Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification.  The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted.  If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip.  Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times.  Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog.

The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do o ur best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
