Description:
Rocky was adopted from the Morrison County Humane Society (MN) on May 5th, 2010. His previous owners were ordered by the county to surrender their four dogs due to severe malnutrition and neglect. Rocky, previously known as “Rocko”, was the gentleman of the group. He sat and waited his turn to eat while his siblings ate their first dog food meal at the shelter. Previously, they were fed table scraps and whatever they could scavenge outside. Upon arriving to the shelter, he weighed a very light 43lbs! Rocky was estimated to be a year and a half old with and estimated birthdate - November 5th, 2008. He hadn’t had any vet attention; his toenails were so over-grown that that the quips in the nails will forever keep him from having “finely pedicured” short nails. Rocky was neutered and micro-chipped within a week after adopting him. In May of 2011, Rocky became extremely ill and he was diagnosed with Addison’s Disease. Addison’s Disease is not a death sentence and in fact is the exact opposite! Addison Dogs (ADOGS) live a very normal, long, and healthy life and rarely does and ADOG die from Addison’s Disease. Treatment for Rocky consists of a daily oral replacement dose of prednisone to replace the cortisol his body can no longer produce. It also requires a monthly injection of Percorten (DOCP) that replaces the mineralcorticoid his body can no longer produce. He requires both of these hormones to keep his electrolytes balanced. He will require electrolyte (bloodwork) about every 6 months. His monthly costs will be around $30-$40/month provided the new owner can give the injection to Rocky. Rocky is an extremely handsome boy – and he knows it. Common knowledge states that handsome dogs are born to be treated like a fine Prince!. Be careful, it is IMPOSSIBLE to say no to his puppy eyes...don’t make direct eye contact!! :) Rocky knows endless commands and does have good manners...as long as you tell him! Rocky minds his manners...a snap of the finger is all it takes. Some of the few commands he knows: “kennel”, “sit”, “stay”, “lay down” or just “down”, “roll-over” or “let me see your belly!”, “shake” (one paw or both), “settle down”, “Get out of the kitchen”, “no begging”, “say please” or “speak”. ... Rocky is a quick learner, and he is highly motivated by bribery (treats). He is not scared of thunderstorms or firecrackers. He has prey instinct and with a bit of training, could be your best friend of a hunter! Some of his hobbies: Long walks on the beach, hikes through the woods, bike rides, swimming, jogging, cuddling, bird-watching, squirrel patrol, chasing “wabbits”, making new friends and socializing, being the center of attention, singing along to the music, car rides, fetching, dissecting stuffed animals, and chewing on BONES! Rocky has been completely vetted, comes with all vet paperwork/history since the shelter adoption, a CVI, his medications, toys, crate, and doggie bed. He will make some one or some family a very special addition to their family! Rocky is a very sweet and intelligent GSP and very mellow and laid back for a gentleman of his age! Rocky will give you his heart...but not before he steals yours! Please consider giving Rocky his 3rd chance at a great new life!
The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.

Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children.
