Description:
Fresno is extremely smart and knows his life has recently been torn apart. Fresno was found after his owners left him and his brother Frisco behind when they moved. He has the saddest eyes and seems to want nothing more than a little love and a lot of food. Fresno is a special needs guy. He is heartworm positive and will soon be in treatment for it. He's looking for a someone wonderful to take him in and never let him go without food and good care again.. and never move away and not take him. He and his brother are fine adopted to different homes. Please think about giving this guy a foster home or a forever home to recover in!

Fresno is heartworm positive. Heartworm positive dogs are increasing in numbers, the warmer seasons and less people testing and providing preventatives has increased their numbers. LDDR pulls dogs on their last day based on the personalities and not age, breed or health. We usually don't know they are heartworm positive until we bring them into the rescue and have our vets examine them. It's not the best news a dog can get, but it's very treatable and dogs live full normal lives afterward. The treatment is costly and unfortunately painful. The dog is given a course of antibiotics before and afterward and needs to stay calm and well cared for for a month afterward. If you opt to adopt a dog that is heartworm positive, LDDR will cover the cost of treatment at one of our veterinarian offices. In fact having a forever home to care for, comfort and love them is some of the best medicines they can have as their body recovers from the treatment. They will act sluggish after treatment from a few days to a couple weeks, but afterward they have a renewed vigor and even older dogs will act like a puppy again as they gain their energy back. Please don't let the diagnosis stand in the way of adopting a HW positive dog. They are not damaged... just have been bit by a mosquito as many of us have here in Michigan!
 

 

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.
