Description:

Spanky is a mixed breed dog who is very friendly. I've fostered him for 3 months now and if I had to guess at his lineage I'd say he has some Black Mouth Cur and Boxer in him. He's pretty good on the leash and getting better every day, his only fault is he likes to stop and sniff a lot. He's friendly towards every other dog we've met and wags his tail at greeting them. He like to chase squirrels and he's getting closer to catching one every day.

Spanky is very solid-he weighs about 47 pounds and it is all bone and muscle. He can pull very hard when he wants to get at a 'sniff'. But, he loves his daily walk of about 1-1 1/2 miles and looks forward to it.

Because he has some bully-breed in him he loves to roughhouse play. For example, he likes to 'wrestle' with my German Shorthaired Pointer who outweighs him by about 30 pounds-and because Spanky is so low to the ground and very muscular he more than holds his own.

Spanky is completely house trained with no issues at my place. He'll walk in front of the door when he wants to go out. You will need a fenced in yard with the bottom of the fence flush with the ground, as he has snuck under my fence before I had it fixed. He tolerates crating but I never put him in for more than 3-4 hours per day (I work out of the home a lot). More than that would not be a good fit for him.

All in all he's a very sweet dog with a great personality. I would have no hesitation adopting him myself if I didn't have two dogs already. He is neutered and up to date on his shots.

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption.  AVID Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification.  The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted.  If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip.  Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times.  Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog.

The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
