Description:
We took Pete into our home April 17.  Pete is about three years old.   He is a handsome, stately black lab. From my experience with labs, he is pure Labrador Retriever - s olid black, stockily built, web toes, trianglar floppy ears, and a thick, coffee-table-clearing otter tail. Pete spins his tail like a propeller. He is a natural retriever. Fetches and drops object right at your feet. Gets very excited and focussed when a ball or frisbee is brought out. Loves, loves, loves tennis balls. We have not shown Pete a body of water, but I can only imagine he will love water, as well.  We received Pete as a full grown un-neutered male, and thereby  exhibited  the behaviors. He had several accidents in the home and marked up the vet office on day of his neutering. However, since being neutered he has not had a single accident and is quickly becoming less interested in following our dog around. He has not shown any aggression what-so-ever, even when being "scolded" by our dog. He sits on command, and seems to know the down command. Will take treats nicely when told. Pete goes into cage on command. He has obviously had prior training. Further, I believe Pete will train easily, as labs are generally easy to train. Pete is good with other dogs. At first our dog was not keen on Pete's presence, but they are now playing together. Pete is good with cats. We have five cats. He shows little interest, nor is he afraid of them. Pete is underweight, but quickly filling out. Pete may need some dental work, but vet said Pete's next owner should make decision. He has a raspy bark, but very rarely barks. Pete is a well-mannered, lay-at-your-feet , calm companion. Pete is an awesome dog. Right boy? Yeah. He is sleeping on floor next to me as I wrote this.

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.

The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
