Description:

Crosby is a pleasant addition to our home.  We have a fairly chaotic home, so it is a great environment to expose a rescue to a variety of tests. We have busy teenagers, an adult black lab and five cats. Our dog welcomed Crosby into the home, and they have become great friends. They play and wrestle and share their toys. We did have one scrap. Crosby quickly retreated. He wants nothing to do with confrontation. Crosby had no known history of cat tolerance. Crosby proved that he and cats can live in peace. He is weary of cats and takes little interest. Crosby is a fan of people. My kids adore him. He spends nights in teen daughter's room with our dog. Crosby is a well behaved dog and he rarely barks. He is certainly house-trained, but he is not trained. We are working on "sit" and it is going well. I believe Crosby will fit and adapt into any family situation. As far as small children, I can only report that he is very sweet and responds to affection, so I believe it will be fine.

07/16/12 UPDATE: CROSBY (Now called Finnick O'Dair a.k.a Finn) is a great dog!  We have had him in our home since spring of 2012 and sadly, our 3 year old daughter is allergic to him so we need to find him a new forever home.  We believe him to be a small purebred black lab.  He may be mixed with something.  Although slim by lab standards (about 50 lbs), he has the look of a field lab (American Lab).  His black coat is so shiny, he looks like he's wearing a velvet coat.  He rarely barks, even when someone knocks on the door.  He will occasionally bark in excitement if he is outside with my husband/kids and sees me coming home from work.  He gets along great with our other dog, a 10 year old yellow lab/mix as well as our neighbor's smaller/young Jack Russell.  Finn never jumps on people or furniture, with the exception of our bed, which my husband allows him on. He stays in a kennel when no one is at home because he like to collect small items left on the floor (shoes, toys, etc.).  He does not chew them, just piles them on his bed; It's the craziest thing!  He has never once showed any aggression towards anyone and has he ever had a single accident in the house.  We have a 3 year old daughter and a 5 year old son.  It took him a few days to get used to them and their awkward voices/movements but he is great with them now.  I know he would do well with small children and/or other dogs.  I am not sure about cats as I have never witnessed him with one.  The family who fostered him before we adopted him had him for only about a week. They had a cat and said he paid no attention to it.  He is a great cuddler as long as you allow him to.  If you ask him to get off the bed, he will do so immediately.  He LOVES to have his head patted when you are watching TV or reading late at night.  That's how he got his name.  I was reading the Hunger Games and rubbing his head.  Finnick O'Dair is a character in the series.  Our vet believes he was born in late winter/early spring of 2011 so he is very young but has lost that sometimes irritating puppy energy.  I know he would make the perfect dog for a family, couple or single person!  Please give him a good home.  He certainly deserves it!  Remember, he's back up for adoption through no fault of his own.  My daughter is simply allergic to him and can't tolerate a 2nd dog on the home.

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.

The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
