Description:

.
Hodge really is a sweet and playful pup.  He is devoted to his people.  He likes to ride in the car to doggie school.  He goes to an off leash park and comes when called.    He is very smart but stubborn.  He is very cute and he knows it.   Hodge has very short, corse black hair with a beautiful chestnut red undertone. We got the DNA test done on Hodge and it said he was mainly Sharpei! Even though he really doesn't look like it.

Hodge is a true Hodge- Podge  I call him "Hodgie podgie pudding pie"  which has since been shortened to "Pudding head" because he is a little goof ball.

He loves attention.  Hodge loves to give kisses and sit in your lap.   He also is happy patrolling around the yard for some alone time.  He absolutely requires a fenced yard due to his exercise needs. He loves to run, run, run and play.  He likes to play tug of war.  He likes rawhide chews.   He is much, much,  more confident with another dog around.  He would love an active brother or sister dog to romp with.   He is still very puppy in that he likes to pick up shoes and anything else on the floor carry them outside.    He has been to the beach but his is not fond of swimming or fetching.   He prefers to play 'keep away' with other dog's toys.

He is potty trained to go out my doggie door when ever he has to go.  He keeps his crate clean during the day, however, if the doggy door is closed at night -he does not understand to alert to go out. I have tried the bell but he doesn't get it.  He will poop or pee right by the doggy door, so I keep some wee wee pads there.
.  Hodge is enrolled at Canine Resolution in Waterford.   www.CanineResolution.com   to help him with his shyness.   He is going to day camp now all day on Monday and Wednesday, and on June 15 we start a 6 week long group class.  He is making some progress.  He is very food driven and once he settles and gets a treat, then he is your buddy.    It's hard to predict what will scare him.  When he is with a leader,  he's a happy gregarious pup when introduced to strangers.   Hodge was properly introduced to a baby and a 5 year old and he was fine.  He just needs an experienced owner.  He has not met a cat.

So Hodge needs to go to a quieter home without a lot of foot traffic.  Once he knows you, he is fine, but some where there are a lot of teenagers or kids in and out would not be a good fit for him.  Hodge needs a strong leader that will meet his exercise needs.

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.

The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
