Barkley has had a hard life so far. His family didn’t want him, and when he became lost, they never came to claim him.  His foster family took him in, and in no time at all he was entertaining them with his funny antics.

Barkley sure knows how to look cute to get treats!  He sits up with both paws in the air like he is trying to give you a double high five, will offer his paw for a little handshake, or roll over on his back; whatever it takes to win you over.

Barkley struts around the house, a big dog in a little dog body.  He is scrappy and often bossy with some dogs much preferring to be the only occupant on your lap.  He gets along just fine with the dogs in his foster family, but cats and birds are a different story; he was made to hunt and will chase anything that moves.  He really likes to play tug of war, but he often feels possessive and will run off with the tug toy so he can keep it to himself. His possessive and playful nature make him best suited for a family with older kids.

He was named by his foster family because he likes to express himself vocally- to get your attention, alert you to someone at the door, or just because he wants to say hello to the neighbor dogs.  He is always alert and the first to announce a guest at the door.

He is very sturdy and tough, but is not a high-energy dog.  He enjoys walking, and does so enthusiastically and very proudly.  Barkley loves his down-time too, often snuggling with his foster family, curling up with them on the sofa, or just hanging outside the door to whatever room they are in.  He just loves to be wherever you are at.  His soft, wavy fur is low-shedding and just made for petting!

Barkley is assertive but cheerful, with typical terrier stubbornness. He responds well to consistent discipline and to obedience training that focuses on treats and praise.  He is a fast learner and will make a loyal companion! He is crate trained, completely housebroken, and a delight to have around!

Such a cute little dog with a big, loving heart!

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.

The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
