Update 12/19/2010:

Mr. Koda is good with dogs, cats, and kids.

Also, we recently learned that Mr. Joda's fatty tumors are benign so this is excellent news!!

We are working to get him back up to full health.

He is a bouncy golden fur-ball of happiness playing in the snow on his walks.

Update 12/1/2010:

How does a beautiful Goldendoodle like this wind up chained outside in the cold?

Mr. Koda is a sweet 5 year old, with a happy tail that is always wagging. He has the
lovely face of a golden, with some extra fluff around his ears that makes him especially
adorable. He loves nothing more than to be next to his people. He seems to be good with
other dogs, should be fine with cats (shows a passing interest), and was downright
astonished when he met a goat. He stood his ground, and sniffed noses, however, as any
perfect gentleman would. Since we have no children readily available to introduce to him,
we cannot be sure how he would react.

Mr. Koda is a large dog, fairly tall and weighs close to eighty pounds (he is very slim
at this time) so I do not recommend him for a home with very small children (5 and
under). However, from his fairly calm demeanor I feel that older, respectful children
should be fine. He loves to gallop at high speed through the snow, so a fully fenced yard
is desired (not electronic fence). He is housebroken, knows basic commands, but can pull
on the leash when excited.

Mr. Koda has had a rough time in life, with a first owner that possibly could not afford
to keep him. He was surrendered to a rural shelter (?) at some point, and then adopted
out to a home that was later on found to be lacking. He came back to the shelter, and
luckily found his way into our rescue.

It will take some time and effort to clear up Mr. Koda's skin issues, and he will likely
need a special owner who is prepared to feed him high quality food, groom him properly
(one of the top reasons a goldendoodle is surrendered to a shelter), and above all,
cherish him for the rest of his life. He will likely need to wear a coat during the cold
months because his undercoat is sparse.

Mr. Koda has surgery tomorrow (12/15) to remove and biopsy two painful skin lesions over
his spine.

If you are unable to adopt at this time, please consider a donation on his behalf.

12/17/10

Mr. Koda was up and bopping around in the kennel after his surgery Wednesday morning. He
is a happy guy in general, and seems to be much more comfortable now that the nasty
things are removed from his back. Mr. Koda loves to play in the snow (wearing his coat,
of course) for a bit each day and is recovering nicely. He has been very patient with
wearing his cone (tied with a big bow from the vet's office) and has been quiet unless he
needs to go outside to potty. Or, unless someone comes by with a package...but once he is
sure that you are okay with deliveries, he considers his job "well done".

Mr. Koda will NOT be available for adoption until after he has recovered from surgery and
we know the results of his biopsy. He will likely require extra-special care for some
time, so we are searching for an exceptional and fully committed home for him. Please
consider this carefully before submitting an application. This is what Mr. Koda will
likely need to keep him healthy in the future:

Premium Grain Free Food (Mr. Koda currently eats four cups of food per day)
Vet visits, at least twice a year, likely more, and possible medication(s) and/or
supplements
Grooming at least every three months, likely more often
Exercise in a fully fenced in yard (no invisible fence/tethering)
And most importantly: Unconditional LOVE for the rest of his life

If you are not able to adopt at this time, please consider being an "Angel
Sponsor" for Mr. Koda.

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.

The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
