Description:
Nubs is about 4 yo, neutered, HW Neg DHLPP, Bordetella, Rabies wormed for Hook worms on 8/10/10. He is all black with a white patch on his chest and a few white hairs in his front feet and a few on his chin.
We have just learned that Nubs can be fence jumper/climber when scared or aggrivated. We have never witnessed him climbing fences, but he was frightened by some power tools on ONE occasion and was found outside of a neighbors house. Its possible that if he gets scared of something such a power tools, loud noises, he may escape from a fence. Basically just requires supervision if there is scary/stressful situations to ensure that there are no escapes.
Nubs was taken out of a kennel the day before we picked him up, and he was very timid when we first met him but warmed up fairly quickly. Eventually he may love car rides, but I think he had too many that left him in unknown locations with unknown people, so he is very nervous in the car and will shake and hyperventilate. He seems to do much better when there is a person to pet him while he rides and reassure him that it’s going to be okay. We have taken him calm and fun places and he is starting to get better about being nervous, so we hope the more positive experiences he has the better he will be.
This also has lead to separation anxiety, and he does not like being left alone. He will still go willingly into his crate, and should improve when he realizes that his people will still come home. He likes everyone, but will most likely attach to one person like he has in our family. He will sit by the door and wait for his person to come home even when there are other people at home. Nubs does get along well with other dogs, and he has exchanged licks with small dogs and big dogs alike. He will defend his place in the hierarchy if another dog tests him, but otherwise seems fairly happy with everyone. Cats are unknown. Nubs walks well on a leash, and especially loves to explore grassy areas. He does not like being yelled at, so occasionally he gets nervous when someone yells at their dogs and thinks he is the one in trouble. We are working on sit, but he mostly wants to just balance on his back legs and stand up without touching you. He loves to cuddle, and just be with the person he adores. He will also crawl to the person he loves and roll over for belly rubs. With time, Nubs is going to be a great dog but due to his past he will need a lot of confidence building and feeling of security. Even after a week, we have seen great improvements so we can’t wait to see what more time will bring! Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.Other Pictures of Nubs - ADOPTED 11.12.10 (click to see larger version):
