Update 9-15-2010 – Sandee is a happy-go-lucky little dog with lots of spunk and a sweet personality. (See her short video).  It took her about a week to settle in the foster home, but now comfortable, she has tried to engage the resident dogs into play.  She has a favorite stuffed toy she likes to play with and will run through the house with it in her mouth.  At a recent adoption event she was nervous, but still gave finger licks to folks who petted her.  She likes to be near people and is content to lay next to your chair or wait outside the bathroom door for you.  She greets guests to the home with happy bounces and butt wiggles.  Sandee loves to be petted and get belly rubs, and in return will give you ‘kisses’.  She takes treats very gently, even the tastiest of treats.  She is a dainty eater, albeit a bit messy due to her ‘smoosh’ face.  She likes to let you know when it’s time for a walk by sitting patiently in front of the door, waiting for you to notice.  Unlike some dogs who jump all around at the prospect of going for a walk, Sandee calmly waits for you to attach her leash.  Sandee is very alert and will let you know when someone is near the home.  She has a little dog bark, but it is not particularly obnoxious and she minds quite well when told ‘quiet’.  Sandee is also very good for grooming and will roll over on her back for you to trim her nails.  Sandee does exhibit mild separation anxiety.  She is making progress in this area, but would be more comfortable in a family where someone is home most of the time.

Sandee had a recent physical exam and is up-to-date on her shots.  She has no known health issues.  The wrinkle creases on Sandee’s face do require regular cleansing, but that is a very simple task and takes only a couple minutes to do.  The foster mom is monitoring Sandee’s food intake to help her lose a couple pounds as she is a bit overweight for her size.

Sandee is very deserving of a loving, stable family environment, and would make an ideal companion for a family with older children or a retired couple.

9-5-2010 - Sandee has had many losses in her short life.  She was surrendered to a shelter by the family who was caring for her while her original owner completed military training and his tour of duty in Iraq.  Unfortunately, his wife was receiving treatment for cancer and required a sterile environment so he could not take Sandee back.  Then, the family caring for Sandee encountered financial problems and could no longer afford to keep her.  The shelter where Sandee was surrendered was overcrowded and Sandee was in danger of being euthanized.  Luckily, LDDR was notified and brought Sandee into care.

Sandee is a sweet little girl with a delightful personality.  She has displayed mild separation anxiety in the foster home.  This is understandable due to the many changes in her living environment.  It is obvious that Sandee has been well cared for and loved.  She is a little on the pudgy side and could stand to lose some weight.

Here is what the former owners say about Sandee:

v        her favorite trick is to 'dance' for a treat (she also will 'walk' for a treat)

v        she likes to sleep in her crate at night

v        she likes to play tug-of-war and fetch, and will play vigorously for short periods of time

v        she is good with other animals including dogs, cats, hamsters, and gerbils (she loves to sit by the gerbil cage and watch them)

v        she loves attention, but is not a cuddler

v        she loves people

v        she loves walks

v        she loves to eat, but is picky about her dog food and does not like hard treats

v        she loves car rides

v        she is good with adults and older children, but not with young children (under 12)

In the foster home, Sandee has been quiet and well mannered.  She is residing in a multi-dog home and seems comfortable with the smaller dogs, but is a little unsure of the large male dog and has snapped at him a couple times.

Sandee has a soft thick coat, which will require regular combing.  Sandee's small size and happy disposition would fit into many family scenarios.  If you are considering a small dog, please ask about Sandee.

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.

The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
