Aubrey is a devoted companion.  She will show you love, not for what you do, but because her spirit is just that forgiving. Abandoned at a high kill shelter, Aubrey's number was up and the volunteers at Last Day Dog Rescue couldn't turn their backs on Aubrey.  Now here she is in the comfort of a loving foster home as she awaits her forever home. Aubrey loves being with people & would prefer to be in a home where she is incorporated into family activities. Daily exercise is a must for Aubrey.  Kelpies are not couch potatoes and are very intelligent, so it is best that you research the breed before committing to adoption.  A home with herding dog experience is a plus because Aubrey does attempt to herd and nips. (We are in the process of  teaching her not to nip humans).  She does require some basic training but seems to be a very fast learner. We are working on training, but she is still new so we are taking our time because we don't want to overwhelm her.  She is excellent in the house while you are away.  She doesn't like being left alone in the backyard for too long.  She becomes bored and lonely.  People, playing with other dogs and learning new skills  seems to bring out the best in Aubrey.  She would probably be great at agility.  She shows no signs of aggression and is very good in a car.  Aubrey would do best with a calm, patient & loving leader. She shows signs of having a history of physical abuse.  Positive reinforcement is the only way to go with this gentle soul.

Update on Aubrey- 8/12/2010

Aubrey is a young girl who will not weigh more than 35 pounds - just the right size for a house pet. She has a beautiful black coat that will really shine once we get her cleaned up. Aubrey is very submissive and friendly - a good girl who wants to please her owner. Please help her find the right one!

Little Aubrey is a special little girl she looks like a small labrador as she is only about 30 pounds right now so she is very much on the small size.  She has silky black hair and is very pretty . Aubrey also is a very happy girl she is so glad to be out of the shelter her eyes and bright and sparkly and she has a big doggy smile on all the time  If you have always wanted a labrador but did not want a dog that big this is your girl. Come spoil her !!

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.

The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
