Meet Casey! Nothing is more sad as seeing a great senior dog dumped into a shelter the owners probably ran right out and got a puppy. He keeps looking down the aisle of the shelter expecting them to come get him from this noisy place, but sadly they are not coming. Casey is a fantastic dog! He has all the things you want in a dog: well-trained, housebroken, non-chewer, smart, loves walks, and will be so grateful for a soft place to lie his head for his remaining years. Please give our seniors a chance!

Update on Mr. Casey- 8/16/2010
Mr. Casey is a 10 year old black lab that weighs about 88 pounds. He is extremely sweet and lovable. He gets along wonderfully with other dogs. He's just an all-around sweetheart! He loves getting attention and isn't a barker at all. Mr. Casey does have arthritus in his hips, he has trouble getting into the car. He is used to getting walked twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. He is a well behaved dog, like most seniors. He has the happiest tail and most expressive face.  His coat is beautiful, and he also has a great doggy smile.  He loves nothing more than to snooze in a comfortable spot near our giant Newfoundland, Doris.  He never fails to greet you at the door with a present (a toy or shoe) just for you!  This hungry boy loves to eat, and can pick up his food dish and bring it to you.  Mr. Casey's hips are a bit stiff, but he loves to walk, and with regular exercise, glucosamine supplements, and a few pounds lost, he seems to be loosening up a bit. This guy is a quick learner and has mastered simple commands and submissive behaviors right away:  he sits, stays, comes, and waits for his human companion to enter a doorway first-- such a gentleman!  He is a real lover; belly rubs are always appreciated and rewarded with a paw on your lap or a gentle kiss.
He has big, sparkling eyes that make you forget that he isn't as young as he used to be, but at least he'll have the few great years of his life when he finds his fur-ever home.

Now that Casey is with LDDR. We have a little more about him to share. He is great with other dogs, and is currently boarding at a daycare where he hangs out with thirty other dogs every day! He is not a barker, and we have yet to hear him speak. He loves to cuddle up next to you, and loves being petted! Casey is a slow walker. Even though he weighs 88 lbs, he is completely manageable on a leash and walks right by your side. He perks up a little when he sees a squirrel so we're not sure how he would be with cats, but since he is a pretty slow and lazy dog we are guessing he may do ok with them. Health-wise, Casey is in excellent shape. Our vet did a thorough examination and vaccines. There are some fatty lumps hanging off his tummy, but the vet said these look benign to him, and he does not feel the need to do a biopsy or remove them. They are not impacting his health and well being. He may have the starts of some arthritis as he is able to do steps just fine, but had trouble hopping up into the car. We may put him on some pain medication so he feels more sprite! Casey is absolutely gorgeous looking, and his pictures do not do him justice. He has a big thick coat and you will think you are snuggling up to a giant teddy bear. When he smiles, he smiles with his eyes! Casey did end up in the pound as an owner surrender, and he came in with one other dog. Unfortunately we were not able to take the other dog (Wilhemenia) from Roscommon as she is a pit bull who does not like other dogs except for Casey. As we were going to board them together at a doggy daycare, we could only take dogs who played nicely with others. Though it truly broke my heart to go to the pound, see them together in a kennel, and know that I could only take Casey - not Wilhemenia. If you are open to taking both of them, please let us know ASAP so we can arrange for you to meet them both.

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.

The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
