Description:

Poppy is a beautiful girl who is very friendly, affectionate, and always seems happy! She is energetic, a little bit goofy, and she prances when she walks. She has a little problem with personal space because she loves to be right up close to you, whether it’s playing fetch or tug, cuddling, trying to be a lapdog, or just following you around to see what you’re doing. She loves attention and is just happy to be with you.

Poppy is very active and playful and also curious and smart, so she needs a lot of stimulation to make sure her energy is channeled in a good direction. Poppy is housetrained and will stand at the door to let you know she needs to go out.  She does well with a consistent structure and she responds well to training and redirection. She knows some basic commands like sit, stay, come, lay down, and leave it, and she is crate trained.  Poppy sleeps throughout the night on her dog bed or the couch.  She has been left alone uncrated and has been the perfect house guest.  There are no signs of separation anxiety but she will greet you at the door with lots of tail wagging, butt wiggles and kisses.

She loves walks and is doing a great job learning to behave calmly on a leash.  She prances when you tell her she is a such a good dog for not barking at the dogs barking at her when on a walk.  She wants to go over and play with them but doesn’t tug at her leash and continues her walk when directed.  Poppy loves racing around in a fenced in yard, chasing balls and frisbees.  Poppy has gone camping with her foster parents and is the best car traveler they have seen.  She just sleeps in the back seat until the car stops.  She loves boating and learned to swim in water over her head.  She has determined she loves the lake life!

Poppy loves people and is good with other dogs and children. She is 58 pounds of pure muscle so a home with older children would be best.  She loves to play with her foster’s granddog and is remarkably calmer and more tired out after one of those playdates.  A home with a slightly older pup who would love to play with her would be great!  She would do great with an active family who can give her lots of attention and love.

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.

The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
