Description:

She is a lab mix about 45lbs. She is mostly black with white fur on her chest, her feet and the tip of her tail. She is very cute and sweet. She loves to cuddle and play with toys. She is good at fetching, she will even sometimes jump and catch things mid-air. She LOVES walks. She smells everything and loves leaf piles. She does well with kids (my son is 8 and they play and do well together) I’m not sure if she would do well with toddlers or babies. She gets excited and barks when the neighbor is outside with their 1 year old in the front yard and she barks at moms with strollers when we see them on walks. She does not do well around other dogs. When we see them being walked on our walks she barks a lot and pulls toward them and jumps around. She’s not heavy enough to pull me around, so I usually ignore her and keep walking and she is pretty quick to follow. Lately, if I notice a dog on a walk, I will turn us around and head in the opposite direction so she doesn’t get a chance to get worked up. When we pass dogs in yards it is hit or miss on if she will pull and bark. Sometimes she just growls a little or whines and hustles by. I get the impression that she has trust issues with other dogs. I’m not sure how she would do with cats, the few times we have seen one on a walk, she barked but quickly moved on. She gets very excited about squirrels and rabbits. She wants to chase them very badly. She will pull quite hard sometimes when she sees one on a walk. She has recently been to a few training classes. We are using a clicker and treats to reinforce behaviors that we want. So far it is commands like sit, come, lay down, go to your bed. We also give her treats when she focuses on us instead of the treat in our hand or instead of all the external stimuli when we are on a walk. She does pretty well when there aren’t distractions. She also has been advised to have enrichment time daily. So we give her treats in a puzzle ball and use a maze food bowl and other thinking devices at meal times (muffin pan with balls over the food) she is on a special perscription food. It is for digestion. Her stools are very messy without it. She has 1-2 stools a day, usually when she is out on her walk in the morning. She is very smart so you can’t leave a plate on the coffee table or forget to put the trash back under the sink because she is quick to investigate and eat whatever she finds. If you want to be her best friend you just have to give her butt scratches. :)

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.

The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
