Description:

Hi!  My name is Maksim!  My name means "the Great!" And my foster mom says my name fits....I am pretty great!  They mostly call me Maks!

My vet says I am about 10 months old and isn't quite sure of my breed.  She says I am definitely a mix and thinks some sort of hound and St Bernard perhaps.  But don't worry, I don't drool like a typical Saint and my vet says I won't get that big because of whatever else I am mixed with!

I spent the last couple of months in a shelter and I can't tell you much about my life before that but my foster mom and dad think that maybe I wasn't treated so kindly.  Sometimes when they go to pet me I get startled.  When things fall or move unexpectedly I get startled too and they don't think I will like fireworks too much!

No matter what tho, I am a lover, especially once I feel safe and know that you just want to feed me and pet me.

I am a little clutzy and clumsy and my foster family likes to watch me run and play.  They say it is as if I don't fully realize where my body is in relation to the earth.  My vet says that is probably because I'm not done growing yet! And sometimes, I even act like a cat, climbing up and walking along the backs of furniture.  I hope my new family won't mind sharing their furniture with me!  I am finding it to be so great after so much time in a cage!  If not, I am smart and am sure I can learn new rules too.

I want a patient family as I am still learning a lot of new things. No one ever taught me manners and of course I am still quite young. Right now I am mostly working on "off" , "stay", "break", and "easy".  Oh and I am learning my name too!  I have no idea what my mom means when she says "sit".  I've had zero accidents also!

Oh I also like other dogs and am learning to respect their boundaries and to play with them the way they want to play instead of always making them play the way I want to.  I have a good foster brother though who is patient with me, likes to play a lot, but also will let me know when he has had enough.  It is tough sometimes, but I am learning to respect him. I think I would like a foster brother or sister but we should probably meet first to make sure we will fit well together.

I have a lot of energy so really small children may not be a great fit.  I might accidentally knock them over and I sure would feel bad about that.  But older kids I think could be a good fit for me.  Oh and is it too much to ask for a fenced in yard where I can run and play...and I sure do like to explore the neighborhood on long walks.  The colder weather doesn't bother me too much!

I know it sounds like I am asking for a lot...but since I am pretty great, I think I am worth it!

Oh! My foster mom wants me to tell you that I have only been with them a week and am settling in quite nicely.  She said that they are discovering new things every day about me and she will be sure to post updates if anything changes....like that kid thing.  She is gonna be introducing me to some different kids soon to see how I do.

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.

The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
