Description:
A personality that just doesn't quit. That's Winston. This 6-year-old, 42-pound mixed-breed dog is extremely intelligent, affectionate, energetic and responsive. He will play fetch the ball or tug of war all day long, although his favorite game is chasing a laser light or a flashlight beam. He will stand motionless for minutes at a time, staring at the flashlight, his eyes begging you to turn it on and play with him. He is extremely good-natured and knows, sit, stay and lie down, and "where's the ball? Go get your ball!" Winston walks well on a leash, is completely house-broken and is good with cats and other dogs. He will chase the cats when they are out in the yard, and sometimes in the house, but he doesn't hurt them and ignores them most of the time. He will try to play with other dogs but he needs one that is as energetic and playful as he is. He would be a great dog for agility training, or to go jogging with. I walk him where he can be off-leash and he can run like the wind. It's a joy to see him run. He'll not run away though; he stays close by and keeps track of where you are. He'll chase a chipmunk or squirrel but come back when you call.

He loves to be around his people and is loyal and mildly protective. That is, he barks at dogs walking by or when someone knocks at the door, but he is not aggressive. He will lie on the couch next to you and sleep with his head on your leg, just happy to be by your side. I have had him for more than a year, and he is a great dog. I'm only looking for a new home for him for his sake-I have 3 other older, more sedentary dogs who don't want to play with him, and I can't play with him as much as he would like or deserves. He needs to be in an active, high-energy household. He is neutered, housebroken and up to date on shots.

Winston's adoption fee is 200.

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal.

Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed.

The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label.

Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.
