Description:
MEET SPARKLE!
WE WISH TO EXTEND VERY SPECIAL THANK YOUS TO NANCY PETERS, KIM MOON IN MEMORY OF "SNIZ" AND SHERYL ENGLISH FOR THEIR MOST GENEROUS DONATIONS TOWARDS SPARKLE'S VET CARE!
We have replaced the graphic picture of Sparkle to show her recent picture (2nd one) of her healing. Her story is one to share with people to bring attention to some issues we see each and every day in rescue and from shelters across Michigan. Sparkle was shot and it appeared it was at close range. We don't know who or why but there is not a reason under the sun that we can come up with to justify this action by someone who apparently has no concern for the care and well being of these wonderful beautiful dogs. The shelters come across this and worse situations each and every day across Michigan and the country. As a rescue we are at times asked to please help a dog that has suffered cruel and inhumane treatment by someone. We could not turn our back on Sparkle and only wish we could help all that come to our attention.
Sparkle has come a long way since she first came into the rescue. Initially a shy, quiet dog, she has shown she is intelligent and loving, with many fine qualities for a family pet. When she is happy she jumps with delight and hops and prances about. She sometimes stands up on her hind legs to get closer to you. She will cover with puppy licks those family members she adores, human and dog alike. If no one is available to play, Sparkle will entertain herself by throwing her toys around and running after them. Sparkle knows her basic commands (sit, stay, down, come, let go, etc.) and is quick to learn new ones. She goes to her crate for naps and at night to sleep. She LOVES to go for walks, is great on leash, and when she hears the sound of her leash rattling will race to the door and wait for everyone else to get there. Sparkle is excellent in the car and enjoys going for car rides. She attempts to shrink herself down as much as possible if you raise your voice at her, and approaches you with head lowered in submissive posture if she believes you are angry with her. So a more calm household will suit her best. Sparkle will chase squirrels and other small animals, and monitors her 'kingdom' unceasingly on the look-out for 'intruders'. No cats! She is very devoted and loyal to her family. Sparkle is very wary of strangers who come to the home. She will display territorial behaviors and should be supervised at all times in the presence of strangers until she is introduced properly and has time to feel comfortable with them. She needs to become comfortable at her own pace with nonfamily members. She will require a family with much patience and understanding to help her work through these issues with the right experienced person/family. Sparkle would do best with an older laid back dog or as an only dog. She seems to be very content just staying near someone. She is completely housebroken having no accidents in her foster home. She is a dainty eater and takes treats nicely. She enjoys belly rubs and getting her coat brushed. She also will wrap her front paws around your legs as if hugging you! We also feel Sparkle would have no problem jumping a standard fence and if she really wanted, she may be able to scale a privacy fence if tempted enough to get a squirrel or something of interest to her. So privacy fencing and/or ariel line will be required for her. Despite what has happened to this gorgeous girl, she has a spirit to melt your heart! She is only 43 pounds (underweight) and has a heart of gold! Her foster mom says she is an all around sweet, loving dog and will make the right someone a wonderful family companion for years to come! What a special girl indeed! Sparkle is microchipped.
UPDATE: Sparkle has been spayed and is completely healed from her shot wound and surgery. Her coat is almost grown back completely too! She is a very pretty girl! ADOPTION FEE IS $195.00

A Note from Last Day Dog Rescue:
This wonderful dog is just one of many in our care right now. Your sponsorship will help us provide shelter, food, vetting, and tender loving care for our dogs until they find new loving homes. Adoption fees do not cover our expenses, so your sponsorship will make a positive impact on our organization and especially on our dogs well being. We are not a chapter or affiliate of any national animal organization. We are, moreover, very grateful for your generosity. Please click to sponsor this great dog! Thank you!
*DISCLAIMER:
We at Last Day Dog Rescue cannot and do not guarantee breed or age of its dogs/puppies listed with us for adoption. We depend on opinions from shelter staff and veterinarians among others to provide us with their best assessments regarding both breed and approximate age to the best of their ability.
*PLEASE NOTE:
We rescue our dogs from shelters and pounds. Most often we do not have background or history information on them. In the event any information is given to us, we will include that in the dogs profile.
*YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OLD TO APPLY FOR AN ADOPTION. *WE DO NOT ADOPT OUT OF STATE. Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.Other Pictures of Sparkle (click to see larger version):
