Description: MEET RITA!
Rita came from a gassing shelter in Ohio. We can't save every dog but we didn't want her to suffer that horrible slow death. Rita is a very sweet but shy girl, and appears to be about 3 years old and weighs only 35 pounds.
We don't know anything about her background but she obviously was not treated very nicely by a man or men in her life. She strongly prefers women who make her much more comfortable, and would do best with females in her forever home. She will need an understanding 'mom' who will give her the time she needs to settle into her forever home, to know she is secure before being introduced to a man joining the family. We know this will make it very difficult to find her just the right home under these circumstances, but Rita is worth it and deserves to feel safe and happy the rest of her life. Rita is not aggressive in her shyness of men; she is just unsure and will not openly approach a man or remain alone with just a man in the room. We feel in the right home setting, given time, understanding and patience, she has the capacity to accept a man in her life, but needs to make the bond first with her mom and feel secure in her home. This will take lots of love, time, consistency and repetition. She is so deserving of a wonderful forever home and we know her very special someone is out there!
She does not like to be crated, and really doesn't need to be and would also do best in a fairly quiet, less active household as she will tuck herself away in a corner if the house has lots of loud noises and commotion. Once comfortable in a home, Rita is very playful with a low key energy level. She does very well with other dogs, and if you have another dog in your home, this may help her tremendously in feeling secure. She gets along well with children. She has trusting eyes and a sweet nature that comes through when you meet her.
While in foster care, her fosters found her to be a very smart dog. Rita worked hard to learn that she shouldn't dart out an open door. She has done a very good job at being more patient when she wants to go outside, but may still need a reminder when she gets excited or nervous. She is still learning to come to her name, and will sit most of the time when asked (and sheʼll always sit if you have a treat). She is also working well learning the lie down command. Lots of treats, goodies, and chew toys will be important to help keep her entertained.
She loves to snuggle on the couch or bed, enjoys every minute of attention, and always has a happy tail wagging for you. We truly feel once Rita has found her forever home, and has the time to adjust and believe she is finally home, she will thrive and blossom. If you are a female looking for a loving smaller sized dog that is just waiting to be your best friend and won't take your love and affection for granted, Rita is the perfect girl for you. She will make a great addition to your life. Wonʼt you please consider her for a loving pet and companion?

*DISCLAIMER:
We at Last Day Dog Rescue cannot and do not guarantee breed or age of its dogs/puppies listed with us for adoption. We depend on opinions from shelter staff and veterinarians among others to provide us with their best assessments regarding both breed and approximate age to the best of their ability.
*PLEASE NOTE:
We rescue our dogs from shelters and pounds. Most often we do not have background or history information on them. In the event any information is given to us, we will include that in the dogs profile.
*YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OLD TO APPLY FOR AN ADOPTION. *WE DO NOT ADOPT OUT OF STATE. Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by.Other Pictures of Rita (click to see larger version):
