SKYE’S REQUIREMENTS: Allowed on the furniture/bed Another playful dog in the home No crating
Miss Skye is a sweet girl with beautiful markings that craves love, attention and cuddles. Her highest breed percentages are Collie (39%) and Boxer (25%)--confirmed by DNA testing. She definitely likes to use her Boxer paws, but has the personality of a Collie. She loves her fur-siblings, but loves her people even more. She requires a household that allows her on the furniture to cuddle with her people, as well as sleep with them. If you’re sitting or lying down, there better be room for her, too. She also needs to live in a home that has another playful dog, as she loves to play, but gets anxious when alone. Sometimes Skye likes to herd, so she would do best in a home with children over the age of 5, as she could possibly knock small ones down while trying to herd or accidentally scratch them when using her paws.
Skye can be wary of strangers, so it is important to continue to socialize her with people. When she first arrived, she would submissive- and excite-potty a lot. As her confidence has grown, she now only has accidents once in awhile. When she is first adopted, it is possible she will relapse until she feels confident in her new home. Her new family will need to understand this and work with her, positively reinforcing her confidence. She must not be punished or scolded for this behavior—which will only make it worse.
Skye is very young and still needs some training. She knows sit, but we have held off on teaching her the other basics, so she can bond and build her confidence with her new family through positive reinforcement training. She also likes to counter surf, which we are working on.
Skye cannot be crated. She is perfectly fine loose in the house. But beware—she will collect your clothing, slippers or anything with her humans’ scent on it to keep her company while they are away. She does not chew, just lays and snuggles with her “prizes.”
Skye came to us missing the majority of her coat, which has been filling in nicely since October. We have not yet determined if the length of her coat will be medium or long. Please keep this in mind if you do not want a long-haired dog. We can’t wait to see what her full coat looks like, as she is already so beautiful.
Please fill out an application if Skye sounds like the perfect fit for your family. Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first.
