Our 11-yr-old rottie Sasha passed away recently and we were lost, she was very special to us and we were missing her companionship, along with our puppy Giselle. I happened across Mr. Brutus' profile on Petfinder and his bio sounded perfect for our family. When we took Giselle out to meet him, she was in love! And honestly, after spending some time with Mr. Brutus, we were too... he came home on Aug 18 and is already a part of the family, my two kids adore him and he and Giselle are now best buds. We would like to send a special "thank you" out to his foster mom, Tracy, for taking such good care of he and his brother Rome and nursing them back to health... not only did Mr. Brutus get a new name (he is now 'Diesel'), he got a new lease on life!

We've had Elton, now Elvis for just over a week now and that cute as heck, sweet boy makes us laugh throughout each day!!! He LOVES just walking around with a bone in his mouth. He hardly chews on it cuz he is just so content to walk around with it in his mouth! His cute little Rott butt with his nubby tail just a wiggeling away. He walks wonderfully on his leash and I make sure we go for at least one walk a day. Thank you LDDR for making the adoption process an enjoyable experience. Keep doing all that you do for all the poor babies that need loving fur-ever homes. I'd take 10 of them if only i could!!! God Bless you all at LDDR!

My husband and I had been looking for a dog for about 6 months and were becoming frustrated with rescues. (The lack of response, the attitude we got because we had never owned a dog before etc...) After e-mailing LDDR on a whim to see a dog - we were shocked when we got a prompt, friendly response. From the first e-mail to the enjoyable home visit to the excited e-mails I can send April (the foster mom that had the perfect dog for us) we've had nothing but an excellent experience with LDDR. We got so lucky to find such a great rescue and the perfect dog for us. Chance loves all the kids in our neighborhood, he sleeps on our feet, he follows us everywhere with his tail wagging and he brings us joy on a daily basis. We love the LDDR.

Dear LDDR, thanks so much for saving Rita so that we could provide a loving home for her. She is such a wonderful dog and fits in perfectly with our family. We love her so much. She is so good with the kids and is so much fun. Thank you for writing on Rita's webpage regarding her personality. That's what really caught our interest. I would highly recommend that you do the same for your other adoptees so that people can find the perfect dog to fit their families. We are so appreciative of the dedication that you have to finding homes for these deserving animals. Keep up the great work!

My family adopted Colby from Last Day Dog Rescue and couldn't be happier. They saved Colby an hour before he was going to be put down, and lucky for all of us, we got a great pet. He is everything they said he was in his description on the website and by his foster mom. I highly recommend rescuing a dog from Last Day Dog Rescue. Thank you for our wonderful new family member!

We were looking for a wonderful place to adopt our next family pet and found one at LDDR! Scout(formerly Burnetts) is the perfect dog. She's sweet, gentle, cuddly and everything we could want rolled up into a cute, fuzzy black lab puppy. Thanks for all you do to save these loving creatures!

Your site glows with the love and compassion of good people; I commend your patience and enjoy reading other posts of successful pairings. We have "healed" from a loss last fall, and have applied for Milo... a new retiree for the family!

Message From: Jamie Atkins July 19, 2010
We recently in the past month and a half have adopted 2 wonderful dogs from your rescue, Emily and Nakita. They are both loveys and great dogs. We love them so and spoil them, they bring us joy everyday!!! Thank you!

I came across your site through adoptapet.com. Your animals are beautiful and all deserve a loving home and family. I filled out an application for Shane and hope that he still is available after attending today's event! I wish the best of luck to all the wonderful animals that have been through things that no animal deserves!

I love animals, and have been a foster mom and a foster failure. It's so hard to see how people can abuse God's creatures.

We had a great experience with Last Day Dog Rescue. We adopted "Vanna" a 9 Month old lab/pointer mix and we could not have asked for a better match for our family. We have 2 children ages 3 and 7 years old. Vanna is a great addition to our family. She loves to play with the kids outside and indoors is very well behaved. She warmed her way into our hearts quickly after the loss of our previous pet and she made the grieving alot easier for myself and the kids. We love her very much. Thanks alot to the foster family and to Last Day Dog Rescue.

I want to share with your organization some of my thoughts about the pleasant experience that my husband and I had, when adopting our dog Chowder last April in 2009 and have since continued to experience by caring for her. The adoption process of Chowder (formally named Bunny by Last Day) was carried out efficiently. Brenda the Last Day volunteer who placed Chowder with us was friendly and welcomed us into her own home so that we might become aquainted with some of the dogs available for adoption. Brenda appeared to trust our ability to care for a new pet and did not apply uneccessary scrutiny that might deter someone from considering adoption in the first place. Promises were kept and Chowder was spayed and vaccinated as appropriate. Chowder was picked up from her assigned vet very matter of factly. And, our new dog adventure began! Chowder was suspected to be very shy. She was tossed away, out of a moving car with other siblings. So, she suffered some trauma. And, in the beginning she often sat motionless and reserved before anyone who met her. Brenda suspected that she would be a great lap dog for my grandmother who resides in the home with my husband and I. We didn't anticipate a lot of affection or energy from her. She just didn't seem to be that kind of dog. Chowder did take a little bit of time to adjust herself. She required patience with some housetraining issues. She hid herself under beds and chewed things out of fear and nervousness. She growled at my husband for awhile (signs of being afraid of men were apparent). And, like a statue she would sit. Never a sound out of her. Scared eyes staring back at you. But, oh that's not where the story ends. Apparently, Chowder wasn't destined to be a lap dog at all. And, although she's still not a barker (which isn't a bad thing) she uses "bumping" effectively to voice her wants and needs now. Chowder latched on to me more than my Grandma. And to be with me, meant coming out of her shell. I took her through the woods on hikes. Long walks became an everyday part of her life. Sometimes, she's even called on, to be my jogging partner. Chowder had to interact with neighborhood kids while on her walks. And, we didn't stop there. She started coming with me on trips to visit seniors at the Fenton Nursing Center. When it was time for errands to the local recycling lot, I made her my driving companion. After a while, Chowder the Statue Dog was no longer. Instead, the most playful, loving, appreciative, puppylike demeanor took over. Now, she does it all. She sit on my Grandma's lap as a kind gesture to her and not because she's too scared to be on her own. She realized that my husband won't hurt her, and as a first time pet owner he is now getting to experience the natural love of an animal as they enjoy their evening "pet" sessions together. Like so many other peoples' stories appear to go, we took on Chowder as a service to her. We didn't know if she would ever have much life in her, but we were content enough just to know that she wouldn't be euthanzied by the local Animal Shelter. The story's turn came when she started acting as "service" dog to us. You see, her love is mammoth and she is so affectionate now, that there is no way that I can feel that I'm doing something special for her. Instead, she's my gift each and everyday. My grandmother is a recovering stroke patient and I have taken care of her full time for over two years now. I thought Chowder might be comforting to my Grandma. I even accepted that she would be her pet. Instead, Chowder chose to have a most special relationship with me. In fact, without a doubt she is my therapy dog. She makes it possible to get through the hard days of caregiving. Caregivers rarely realize themselves when busied by the demands of a disabled senior. Thank God that Chowder did, and rose to the cause of healing me!

Thanks to all for the updates on your adoptive dogs!! I was involved with a lot of these, whether it was through the adoption process, pulling them from pounds, fostering them, or visiting with them at adoption events. Makes me so happy to hear they are doing well, especially my Hickory, Harlow, and Marty! Thanks for letting us be a part of that!!! And to all the awesome fosters and volunteers out there, thanks for all your hard work to make this possible! Best, Kathryn (VP, LDDR)

I adopted Elvis, a beautiful black lab, in January and he's been such a sweet boy. Everyone loves him - in fact, the neighbor kids ask to walk and play with him because he's such a nice dog. I can't imagine why someone would take him to a pound where he'd be put down because he's so sweet and gentle, but I'm glad we found each other!

I have been a foster mom for LDDR for almost two years. It has been a rewarding and wonderful experience. Sometimes heartbreaking as I find myself having to give up dogs I have grown to love and see as my very own. Anyone looking to be a foster or adopt a dog, pup or even a few cats... Will find that LDDR is a great rescue to involve yourself with. The founders, the board members, the volunteers and the fosters all just plan out love dogs! It certainly shows as you see the progress the dogs make... from scared, underfed, sometimes ill or injured, to healthy and happy forever pets to be.

We adopted Rosie in September 2009. She is such a wonderful dog! I can't even imagine why someone would have "thrown her away". We have recently passed testing for her to be a therapy dog in the local nursing homes and hospitals. I am so glad she came into our lives so she can touch other lives with her calm and loving demeanor. Thank you for saving her!
