Description:
Trixie and Turbo are bonded Chi's. Both have been raised around dogs, cats, and kids. Trixie is considered a toy Chihuahua, only weighing 5 lbs. She will lie on your lap if you are sitting down and loves to cuddle. Trixie was dropped as a puppy by little kids and since then she has not liked to be picked up.
Turbo was socialized at the dog park as a puppy. Turbo is a large Chihuahua and with that he is lazy. He loves to lay on his back and let you scratch his stomach. Turbo knows how to sit and will come when called. (Unless there is food elsewhere). Turbo does need a fenced in yard or to be on a leash because he tends to wander. Turbo enjoys getting baths and just relaxing.
Both dogs love car rides! They are very good in their crate and sleep there. We ask them to “kennel up” at night and when we are gone during the day and they happily get into their cage. The dogs do not have a problem with chewing toys or shoes, they are all around very easy dogs to take care of. If someone new comes into the house they both will bark at them. Turbo tends to be more vocal than Trixie. We would like them to stay together as they have been raised together. We recommend a home for them with older kids or adults.
Update from Foster: Trixie and Turbo are a pair of bonded chihuahuas have been with us for almost 2 months now. It took them 1-2 days to adjust to a new home and new people; the first few days I was sure they hated us because they would growl if we reached into their kennel or went to pick them up or got too close. I have since learned that this is not uncommon with very small dog breeds and it can take them longer to warm up to new people. However, once these two learned to trust us they totally made up for any of their stand-offish behavior that they had exhibited. Trixie, being all of 5 lbs gives the tiniest sweetest little kisses, Turbo's kisses are also quite endearing. They are both very affectionate and sweet and happy to be with you. They love being in our company now and act as if we have always known one another. They are playful and get along great with other dogs. They do well with one of our cats but the other cat who is less sociable they will bark at and chase. They have also chased a cat who jumped our fence into our yard (the cat quickly made it to the other side). They're very loving, as much as they enjoy play and going for walks, they are quite content to snuggle into your lap for hours on end. They are not bratty or yappy dogs, as adorable as they are, they are not pampered, they do know right from wrong and respond to any correction well. They have two of the most adorable little faces that the camera simply doesn't do justice to. They are funny and a joy to be with. Trixie is tiny and fast and she will run up to any of our three other dogs and surprise them with a kiss on their face. Turbo, on the other hand, is a keen observer and just very easygoing with dogs and people. They both love squeaky, fuzzy toys, Trixie will carry a large fuzzy bone that is twice her size into their kennel. In our yard, they play a staring game with each other and then one of them "attacks" the other.
Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all animals before adoption. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first.
