Description:
Bixby is a healthy, intelligent dog with a strong drive to please. He is 2.5 years old and is neutered, fully vetted, and microchipped. Through a DNA test we learned he is primarily Alaskan Malamute, Shar-pei, and Boxer.

Bixby is not dominant, okay with other dogs, and enjoys time at the dog park and on long walks.  He has not been tested with cats.  Bixby does not have separation anxiety and is free of any known health issues. Bixby is a bit shy/fearful in temperament, so he needs a steady, calm human to share his life.  He will require consistent, positive training so that he can develop a trusting relationship with his human.  Because he is unsure of himself and has indicated for food-bowl aggression, Bixby must be placed in a home with older children or no children.  Bixby would benefit from basic obedience training, and would likely do well in agility due to his athleticism, desire to please, and high level of intelligence.

Bixby is housebroken and crate-trained. He sleeps in his crate at night.  He can do basic commands/tricks- sit, high-five, shake, stay.  He has the capacity and intelligence to learn more tricks.  He is affectionate and likes to curl up next to you on the couch and put his head on your lap.  He loves fetch and can bring the ball back to you and drop it.  He lives with another female dog and they get along fine and play/chase each other in the yard.

Last Day Dog Rescue now microchips all dogs before adoption.  AVID Microchips are implanted between the dog's shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification.  The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted.  If the dog is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip.  Dogs MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times.  Per our contract, we take all our dogs back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted dog.

The petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do o ur best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label.
